truth.”

“Partly.”

That word again.

“What’s the other part?”

Reyes paused.

“Your husband clearly withdrew consent.”

My hand tightened around the phone.

“When?”

“During the recording.”

“Before he died?”

“Approximately thirty-six hours before.”

“What did he say?”

Reyes could not quote the entire recording while evidence was being processed, but she gave me the meaning.

Arthur told Preston he had changed his mind.

He wanted time.

He needed to tell Eleanor everything.

Preston argued that Arthur might lose the opportunity if his condition worsened.

Arthur refused.

Then another voice entered the conversation.

Male.

Ryan.

I stopped breathing.

“What did Ryan say?”

“He told his father that if he confessed everything to you, you would destroy the company legacy, challenge the trust, and expose Daniel’s death.”

“Arthur didn’t own the company anymore.”

“No.”

“Then what legacy?”

“We’re still determining that.”

“What happened next?”

“Arthur told Ryan to get out.”

“And Preston?”

“He remained.”

My skin went cold.

“Then?”

“The recording ends.”

“Why?”

“Someone stops it manually.”

I stared at the cabin wall.

“Who?”

“We don't know.”

“Was that the night of the surveillance footage?”

“Yes.”

The footage Michael showed me had Ryan and Preston leaving together.

Ryan claimed it was altered.

Now an audio recording placed Ryan in the room but suggested Arthur ordered him out before Preston.

Both versions could not be entirely accurate.

“Detective, check the metadata.”

“We are.”

“And compare it with the surveillance timestamps.”

“We are.”

“Something has been changed.”

“We believe so.”

My phone chimed.

An email arrived while Reyes spoke.

Unknown sender.

One attachment.

No message.

I opened it.

A video file.

The thumbnail showed Arthur’s bedroom.

Not the hallway.

Inside the room.

I froze.

“Detective.”

“Yes?”

“I just received something.”

“What?”

“A video.”

“Do not open it.”

“Too late.”

“Forward it immediately.”

I did.

Then, despite her instruction to wait, I pressed PLAY.

Arthur lay in bed.

The angle came from somewhere high near the bookshelf.

A hidden camera I had never known existed.

Preston stood beside him.

Ryan was near the door.

The timestamp matched the night Arthur withdrew consent.

Arthur’s voice was weak but unmistakable.

“No. I said no.”

Preston replied.

“I understand.”

Ryan stepped closer.

“Dad, think about what happens if Mom finds out.”

Arthur turned his head.

“That’s exactly why she has to.”

Ryan said something too low to hear.

Arthur raised his voice.

“Get out.”

Ryan left the frame.

Preston remained.

Arthur looked directly toward the hidden camera.

For one impossible second, it felt as though my husband were looking at me.

Then he said, “If Eleanor sees this, tell her I finally chose the truth.”

Preston moved toward the camera.

The image went black.

The file ended.

I sat completely still.

The email contained one additional line beneath the attachment.

PRESTON DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A SECOND CAMERA.

No sender.

No signature.

I called Reyes again.

“Someone has Arthur’s private recordings.”

“We’re tracing the email.”

“Who?”

“We don't know.”

But I did know one thing.

Arthur had built layers.

Hallway camera.

Bedroom camera.

Safe-deposit box.

Scheduled emails.

Recordings.

A dying man who had spent decades hiding truth had become obsessed with preserving it.

And someone else had been preserving pieces Arthur never managed to deliver.

The question was no longer whether evidence existed.

It was who had been holding it since his death.

Click here to continue reading: PART 11: Arthur’s Hidden Bedroom Camera Proved He Had Withdrawn Consent, but the
