Colton is expendable. Evan is expendable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A bitter laugh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy should I care?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause you&#39;re next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noah mouthed, Keep her talking.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the timeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did you choose Isaac?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wendy became quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSamuel did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe selected your son to marry me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you agreed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it would protect him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou protected him by placing him inside a criminal conspiracy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#39;t understand the position we were in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen explain it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wendy&#39;s voice weakened for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSamuel owned Arthur. He had records of everything. Every account. Every client.
