But you will answer for yours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was trying to preserve our assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor whom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich family?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Claire looked away.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel flinched.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, I saw something crack.<\/p>\n<p>Not remorse.<\/p>\n<p>Control.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria slid a document across the table.<\/p>\n<p>The April 17 authorization.<\/p>\n<p>Then Claire\u2019s flight records.<\/p>\n<p>Then Martin\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared.<\/p>\n<p>Another document followed.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret\u2019s ledger.<\/p>\n<p>Then the recording transcript.<\/p>\n<p>His face changed with each page.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Victoria placed the exit plan on top.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stopped moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know about the offshore structure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>His attorney whispered to him.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel ignored the whisper.<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have no idea what Richard did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He leaned forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s something he hasn\u2019t told you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard again.<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s eyes fixed on mine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reserve trust wasn\u2019t the only thing Margaret hid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse shifted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are you talking about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk Richard what happened to the property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat property?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel sat back.<\/p>\n<p>His attorneys were both watching him now.<\/p>\n<p>He smiled faintly.<\/p>\n<p>Not because he was winning.<\/p>\n<p>Because he had found one piece of information I did not possess.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lake property your grandmother supposedly sold thirteen years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I remembered it.<\/p>\n<p>A wooded parcel around a small lake two hours north.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret had owned it when I was a child.<\/p>\n<p>We spent summers there.<\/p>\n<p>She told me years later that she had sold it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s eyes did not leave mine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe never sold it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who owns it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked toward Claire.<\/p>\n<p>Then back to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the documents Richard has been hiding, you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=9335\">Click here to continue reading: PART 13: Daniel\u2019s Last Surprise Sent Us Back to My Grandmother\u2019s Lake, Where Richard Finally Explained Why She Had Pretended to Sell It<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olivia called her father from Victoria\u2019s office.
