Mark?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe disappointed me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom stepped toward the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ends tonight, Victor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, Helen. It began twenty-seven years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diane demanded to know what had happened at the lake house.<\/p>\n<p>Victor refused to discuss it.<\/p>\n<p>Then she asked the question none of us wanted answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas Mark your son?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Finally Victor said no.<\/p>\n<p>Relief crossed Diane\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>It vanished when he added that he knew who Mark\u2019s biological father was.<\/p>\n<p>Victor told us to examine one photograph beneath the trust documents.<\/p>\n<p>Mom found it.<\/p>\n<p>Four men stood outside my building decades earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Victor.<\/p>\n<p>My father.<\/p>\n<p>And a fourth man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is that?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Mom whispered, \u201cThomas Ellison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diane stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard\u2019s brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas had died before Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Victor told Diane to remember when Mark had been conceived.<\/p>\n<p>Her entire body went rigid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas was at the lake house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Victor confirmed it.<\/p>\n<p>Mark shouted through the phone that he was lying.<\/p>\n<p>Victor said Thomas had personally told him what happened.<\/p>\n<p>Diane screamed.<\/p>\n<p>Mason tried to get Victor to say more.<\/p>\n<p>He refused.<\/p>\n<p>An engine started.<\/p>\n<p>A door slammed.<\/p>\n<p>Then Mark returned to the phone.<\/p>\n<p>He was hurt but conscious.<\/p>\n<p>Mason demanded his location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA warehouse,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChelsea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom\u2019s head snapped up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe West Chelsea property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She gave Mason the address.<\/p>\n<p>Police moved immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Dad tried to stop me from following.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor may have killed Richard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark betrayed you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe tried to steal from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why are you going?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Because whatever Mark had done, I would not allow Victor to decide whether he lived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I\u2019m not him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-five minutes later, police surrounded an old warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>Rain soaked the bottom of my wedding dress while I stood behind the barricade with Mom, Dad, and Diane.<\/p>\n<p>Officers entered.<\/p>\n<p>Minutes passed.<\/p>\n<p>Then Mason emerged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diane nearly collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark had recovered the original payment list.<\/p>\n<p>Mason showed us the entries connected with Mom.<\/p>\n<p>They were not payments to Helen Bennett.<\/p>\n<p>They went to a company called H. Bennett Trust Services.<\/p>\n<p>Mom stared at it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat isn\u2019t mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen whose?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mason had found incorporation documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cH stands for Henry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad stopped breathing.<\/p>\n<p>Mom turned toward him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHenry?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at my father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is Henry Bennett?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad closed his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a brother?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom looked shocked. \u201cYou told me Henry died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believed he did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henry had disappeared in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>The same period when Richard discovered the theft.<\/p>\n<p>The same network.<\/p>\n<p>The same secrets.<\/p>\n<p>Then Mason showed us something worse.<\/p>\n<p>The latest payment to Henry\u2019s company had occurred only three days before my wedding.<\/p>\n<p>Five hundred thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Henry is alive,\u201d Mason said, \u201cVictor may have a partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A paramedic emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Mark followed, bruised and bleeding but walking.<\/p>\n<p>Our eyes met.<\/p>\n<p>He started toward me.<\/p>\n<p>Mason\u2019s phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>He listened.<\/p>\n<p>Then looked at Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Officers searching Victor\u2019s former room had found a recent photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Victor sat at a restaurant beside a gray-haired man.<\/p>\n<p>Dad stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s Henry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My supposedly dead uncle was alive.<\/p>\n<p>He had met Victor six days before my wedding.<\/p>\n<p>Then another photograph arrived.<\/p>\n<p>This one had been taken outside my building eight months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Henry stood beside Mark.<\/p>\n<p>I slowly turned toward my husband.<\/p>\n<p>He saw the photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know my uncle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSophie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long have you known Henry Bennett?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark looked at Mason.<\/p>\n<p>Then at Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Finally at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince before I met you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rain seemed to disappear.<\/p>\n<p>The police lights.<\/p>\n<p>The warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>The ruined dress.<\/p>\n<p>Everything.<\/p>\n<p>Because I finally understood that Victor had not been the person who placed Mark in my path.<\/p>\n<p>Henry had.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=8583\">Click here to continue reading: PART 5: Mark Finally Told Me Who Recruited Him, but Henry\u2019s First Message Proved My Family Had Been Watched for Years<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nobody moved after Victor disconnected.
