Because I became exactly what he told me I already was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Another message arrived.<\/p>\n<p>12:00.<\/p>\n<p>OLD UNION STATION LOCKERS.<\/p>\n<p>ALONE, MARGARET.<\/p>\n<p>David whispered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s where 317 is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know the location?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrivate storage lockers beneath the old station.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the clock.<\/p>\n<p>10:36.<\/p>\n<p>Less than ninety minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds said, \u201cNobody is going alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A new message arrived immediately.<\/p>\n<p>NO POLICE.<\/p>\n<p>ASK MICHAEL WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAST COP WHO TRIED.<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds&#39;s face hardened.<\/p>\n<p>David went pale.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#39;t answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a detective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe year of the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe disappeared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cName?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David looked toward Ms. Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSamuel Harrison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her pen slipped from her fingers.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone turned.<\/p>\n<p>Her face had gone white.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDetective Samuel Harrison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She stepped backward.<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She stared at David.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was my father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe disappeared when I was fourteen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her voice shook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother told me he left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened to him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe found the original ledger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is he?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Michael kill him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David looked away.<\/p>\n<p>That was answer enough.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Harrison covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>My phone buzzed again.<\/p>\n<p>This time the message was from Michael.<\/p>\n<p>DAVID IS LYING ABOUT SAMUEL.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>ASK YOUR LAWYER WHY HER FATHER&#39;S BADGE WAS FOUND INSIDE WAREHOUSE TWO.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Harrison stared at my screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father&#39;s badge?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David shouted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon&#39;t listen to him!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A photograph appeared.<\/p>\n<p>An old police badge.<\/p>\n<p>Burned.<\/p>\n<p>Tarnished.<\/p>\n<p>The name was still visible.<\/p>\n<p>SAMUEL HARRISON.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Harrison covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Michael sent one final message.<\/p>\n<p>MARGARET, YOU WANT THE TRUTH?<\/p>\n<p>COME TO LOCKER 317.<\/p>\n<p>BRING DAVID.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at David.<\/p>\n<p>His face had changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what&#39;s inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is inside?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His eyes met mine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhose body?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David looked at Ms. Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer father&#39;s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She staggered backward.<\/p>\n<p>But David wasn&#39;t finished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if Michael hasn&#39;t moved it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDetective Harrison is still holding the evidence that proves who really ordered the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichael?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeonard?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David&#39;s face crumpled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe person who ordered the fire was someone you already trusted this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slowly, everyone in the kitchen looked around.<\/p>\n<p>Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Alvarez.<\/p>\n<p>The officers.<\/p>\n<p>David.<\/p>\n<p>Me.<\/p>\n<p>Then came a faint metallic click behind me.<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds shouted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDON&#39;T MOVE!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I turned.<\/p>\n<p>The brown folder from breakfast lay open on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Alvarez stood beside the back door.<\/p>\n<p>In her hand was the missing cassette tape.<\/p>\n<p>She looked directly at me.<\/p>\n<p>Then she smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour brother told me you&#39;d make this difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her other hand disappeared inside her coat.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=7795\">Click here to continue reading: PART 5: The woman holding the stolen cassette had spent months inside my home, and the truth about who sent her made the police hesitate<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The phone remained on the table.
