her.

“Why?”

“To protect identities.”

That changed the evidence.

The voice might not belong to Nora.

Ruiz asked who could imitate her.

Nora didn't answer.

Then Samuel spoke.

“Eleanor.”

Everyone looked at him.

“My mother.”

Eleanor Reed had been dead for years.

But Nora's mother had also been Eleanor.

The two children shared the same mother.

Arthur had loved Eleanor before choosing Helen.

But there had been another secret.

Eleanor had once worked for Evelyn.

Samuel revealed that he had recently found letters from his mother.

She had known about Thomas Reed's death.

She had blamed herself.

She believed Arthur was responsible.

But later she discovered the truth.

Evelyn had used Thomas.

When Thomas threatened to expose the company thefts, Evelyn arranged the accident.

Eleanor helped hide it.

She did so because Evelyn threatened Samuel.

That meant Eleanor had been part of the original cover-up.

But she had eventually escaped.

Before dying, she told Samuel the truth.

She also told him something else.

Arthur had never abandoned her.

He had continued supporting her children.

That explained Samuel's secret financial support.

It explained Nora too.

Arthur had been trying to repair a family he had broken by silence.

Nora finally admitted she had visited Arthur.

But not on the night of his death.

She had visited him two days earlier.

Gerald had followed her.

He wanted her to sign a waiver.

She refused.

Arthur told her not to trust anyone connected to his old business.

Nora said Arthur seemed afraid.

“He gave me something.”

“What?”

A photograph.

She removed it from her bag.

It showed Arthur standing beside a woman.

The woman looked like Evelyn.

But she wasn't Evelyn.

Catherine recognized her.

“That is Rachel's mother.”

Rachel's mother was Evelyn's daughter.

But the photograph had been taken decades earlier.

There was a second person in the background.

Mercer.

And a young Gerald.

The three had known one another long before Arthur's financial adviser relationship.

This wasn't a recent conspiracy.

It had begun when Arthur's company was young.

Ruiz asked Nora why she had hidden the photograph.

“Because Arthur told me someone would kill me for it.”

She had been afraid.

The photograph contained one detail nobody had noticed.

A license plate.

Ruiz traced it.

The vehicle belonged to a private medical transport company.

That company had employed Mercer.

It had also transported Helen on the night she died.

The driver was still alive.

His name was Paul Danner.

We found him the next morning.

Paul remembered Helen.

He also remembered Arthur.

But he remembered something more important.

Another passenger had been in the vehicle.

A woman.

Paul identified her from photographs.

Evelyn.

She had accompanied Helen to the hospital.

Arthur had never known.

That meant Evelyn had controlled the medical narrative from the beginning.

But Paul also remembered a second man.

Mercer.

He had arrived separately.

Paul said Mercer argued with Evelyn.

“He told her she had gone too far.”

Then he heard Evelyn say:

“Then fix it.”

Mercer did.

The original medical report was falsified.

But Paul kept one thing.

A dispatch sheet.

The time Helen was transported.

The time Mercer arrived.

And the time Evelyn left.

The timeline proved Arthur could not have been responsible.

He was not there.

The accusation against him had been manufactured.

When we returned home, Mark asked to speak.

He had been cooperating with investigators.

He admitted something new.

He had found the missing page from Arthur's notebook.

It wasn't stolen.

Arthur had given it to Mark.

Years earlier.

Mark had hidden it.

The page contained a confession.

Not from Arthur.

From Evelyn.

She admitted the original scheme.

But there was a final paragraph.

It named someone Arthur had never suspected.

Gerald.

Not as Evelyn's partner.

As her blackmailer.

Gerald had discovered Evelyn's crimes and threatened to expose her unless she paid him.

Over time, he gained control.

Evelyn became dependent on him.

Mercer became dependent on Evelyn.

Mark became dependent on money.

Kevin became dependent on gambling.

Everyone had a weakness.

Gerald had learned how to use all of them.

That changed the meaning of Arthur's final sentence.

The person who poisoned me is not the person who planned my death.

Evelyn had planned the confrontation.

Gerald had administered the injection.

But who switched the vial?

We returned to the clinic.

Elena was waiting.

She had asked to speak privately.

She admitted she had taken the vial.

But she hadn't poisoned Arthur.

She had discovered the plan before Arthur arrived.

She switched the vials to prevent Mercer from giving the fatal dose.

But someone switched them back.

“Who?”

Elena began to cry.

“Gerald.”

That still left the question of how Arthur received the fatal substance.

Elena said Gerald had brought a second syringe.

He had hidden it.

Mercer didn't know.

Evelyn didn't know.

Gerald alone knew.

That meant Gerald had lied.

He had not accidentally killed Arthur.

He had deliberately administered the fatal dose.

But why?

Elena gave us the answer.

“Arthur had proof that Gerald had been stealing for thirty years.”

Gerald wasn't protecting Evelyn.

He was protecting himself.

Evelyn had become expendable.

So had Arthur.

And so had everyone else.

Ruiz obtained a warrant.

Gerald was arrested that night.

But before he was taken away, he said something that chilled me.

“You think Arthur told you everything?”

I said nothing.

Gerald smiled.

“He didn't.”

He looked toward Sarah.

“Ask her what was in the original will.”

Sarah's face went pale.

Gerald was taken outside.

I turned to Sarah.

She wouldn't meet my eyes.

“What was in the original will?”

She sat down.

“There was another beneficiary.”

“Who?”

Sarah reached into her briefcase.

She removed a sealed document.

“The original will named someone Arthur never told you
