wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked toward the garden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted me to become responsible enough to handle it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t want to prove myself because there&#39;s property waiting for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I studied him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo build something myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds more like your father than anything you&#39;ve said before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#39;ll take that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But his decision created another problem.<\/p>\n<p>The trust was legally structured.<\/p>\n<p>It could not simply disappear because Daniel felt uncomfortable accepting it.<\/p>\n<p>My attorney would need to determine what Harold&#39;s provisions allowed.<\/p>\n<p>And while we began that process, another piece of the past surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>A former employee of Harold&#39;s contacted me.<\/p>\n<p>He said he had something that belonged to my husband.<\/p>\n<p>Something Harold had asked him to keep.<\/p>\n<p>He wanted to deliver it personally.<\/p>\n<p>I asked what it was.<\/p>\n<p>He refused to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMrs. Briggs,\u201d he told me, \u201cyour husband said you would know when the time came.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stood in my kitchen holding the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why contact me now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I think the time has come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He gave me an address.<\/p>\n<p>I
