My father\u2019s motorcycle, tools, papers, and the money from his estate were to fund a mechanical scholarship at the community college where he had once taught evening classes.<br \/>\nMargaret knew that.<br \/>\nShe had sat beside me in the lawyer\u2019s office when I signed it.<br \/>\n\u201cYou tried to erase my father\u2019s scholarship,\u201d I said.<br \/>\n\u201cI thought we could change it back later.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cAfter you declared me incompetent, I would never have been allowed to change anything.\u201d<br \/>\nShe looked down.<br \/>\nDeputy Ortiz reached the last document.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is not merely \u2018something concerning the house.\u2019 It is a quitclaim deed.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d Margaret asked.<br \/>\n\u201cIt transfers Harold\u2019s ownership interest in this property to B&amp;T Property Consulting.\u201d<br \/>\nMargaret turned toward her sister.<br \/>\n\u201cYou said it would only allow you to manage the house if Harold went into the hospital.\u201d<br \/>\nBeverly remained silent.<br \/>\n\u201cYou told me I would still own it!\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cYou should have read what you signed,\u201d Beverly replied.<br \/>\nMargaret stared at her as if she had never seen her before.<br \/>\n\u201cI trusted you.\u201d<br \/>\nI almost laughed at the cruelty of those words.<br \/>\nMargaret had destroyed my trust, yet she seemed shocked that Beverly had done the same thing to her.<br \/>\nA second sheriff\u2019s vehicle pulled into the driveway.<br \/>\nDeputy Marcus Cole entered and spoke privately with Deputy Ortiz.<br \/>\nThen he approached Trevor.<br \/>\n\u201cMr. Davis, place your hands behind your back.\u201d<br \/>\nTrevor stepped away.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat for?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cConspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses, identity theft, and suspected forgery.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a family misunderstanding!\u201d<br \/>\nDeputy Cole took his wrist.<br \/>\n\u201cTurn around.\u201d<br \/>\nTrevor resisted just long enough to make the handcuffs click louder than they needed to.<br \/>\nBeverly screamed at the officers.<br \/>\n\u201cYou can\u2019t arrest him!
