You were never admitted.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI told Frank to wait in the family area while I registered. Then I slipped through a side exit.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWhere did you go?\u201d<br \/>\nHarold\u2019s attorney touched his arm.<br \/>\n\u201cYou do not have to answer that.\u201d<br \/>\nSheriff Mercer gathered the papers.<br \/>\n\u201cThen we\u2019re finished.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWait.\u201d<br \/>\nHarold\u2019s face had turned gray.<br \/>\n\u201cI went to Eleanor\u2019s house.\u201d<br \/>\nDad stepped closer to the glass.<br \/>\nSheriff Mercer sat down again.<br \/>\n\u201cWhy?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cGrant called me. Vanessa says you gave Eleanor something after you arrived. Both of them say you were the last person to touch her before she stopped breathing.\u201d<br \/>\nHarold slammed both hands on the table.<br \/>\n\u201cThey\u2019re lying!\u201d<\/p>\n<div handle.\u201d<br \/>\nIt was another flash drive.<br \/>\nMuch smaller than the first.<br \/>\nMom had hidden it where someone searching quickly would never notice.<br \/>\nThe technician connected it to an isolated computer.<br \/>\nThree video files appeared.<br \/>\nThe first showed Grant removing money from Mom\u2019s desk.<br \/>\nThe second showed Vanessa photographing Dad\u2019s banking information.<br \/>\nThe third was dated the night Mom died.<br \/>\nSheriff Mercer pressed play.<br \/>\nThe video came from a hidden camera inside Mom\u2019s kitchen.<br \/>\nGrant stood beside the table holding several documents.<br \/>\nVanessa blocked the doorway.<br \/>\nMom sat in a chair, breathing heavily.<br \/>\n\u201cYou are not getting my signature,\u201d she told them.<br \/>\nGrant leaned over her.<br \/>\n\u201cYou\u2019re going to lose the house anyway.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt isn\u2019t your house.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt will be when Dad dies.\u201d<br \/>\nMom looked directly toward the hidden camera.<br \/>\n\u201cNatalie will see everything.\u201d<br \/>\nVanessa grabbed Mom\u2019s medication bottle.<br \/>\n\u201cShe won\u2019t believe you.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cShe will when she hears the recording.\u201d<br \/>\nGrant knocked the bottle from Vanessa\u2019s hand.<br \/>\nPills scattered across the floor.<br \/>\nMom tried to stand.<br \/>\nHer knees buckled.<br \/>\nShe reached for the table, missed it, and collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>For several minutes, Vanessa cried while Grant searched Mom\u2019s pockets and drawers.<br \/>\nNeither called an ambulance.<br the syringe.<br \/>\nVanessa covered her mouth.<br \/>\nGrant locked the kitchen door.<br \/>\nThen Harold looked at the two children he was protecting and said the sentence that finally revealed what
