The hardest part was accepting that support did not give me control.<\/p>\n
I couldn't make Cole become more attentive.<\/p>\n
I couldn't decide what Lauren should tolerate.<\/p>\n
I couldn't arrange their marriage into something that made me comfortable.<\/p>\n
I could only decide what kind of mother I wanted to be in the middle of it.<\/p>\n

And it meant refusing to use my fear of interfering as an excuse for leaving her alone.<\/p>\n
I still cared about fairness.<\/p>\n
I still believed that people deserved to explain themselves.<\/p>\n
But fairness did not mean treating every choice as harmless simply because I did not know every detail.<\/p>\n
