Daniel. Samuel. Clara.”

He stopped.

“And Lydia.”

Emily felt something inside her shift.

The original trust had never been incomplete.

The family had been incomplete.

Five children.

Five protected identities.

And someone had spent years trying to erase the fifth.

Grant immediately asked Evelyn for every detail she remembered.

Evelyn explained that Rebecca had given birth to Lydia during the period when the financial network was beginning to fracture. Richard and Victor were fighting over control of the trust. Robert had discovered that the family could no longer protect every beneficiary through the same legal system.

So the child was hidden.

But the arrangement had failed.

“When Lydia was discharged,” Evelyn said, “she was placed with someone outside the family.”

“Who?” Emily asked.

Evelyn looked toward Thomas.

“He arranged it.”

Thomas shook his head.

“No. Robert did.”

The old conflict between the two men suddenly became clearer.

Robert had not simply taken on another identity.

He had spent years moving people through the network.

Children.

Witnesses.

Documents.

Money.

Anyone who could become leverage was given a false name.

Anyone who could become a target was moved.

But one person had disappeared completely.

Lydia.

Emily looked at the hospital record.

“Why was her name never in the trust files?”

“It was,” Thomas said.

He opened the recovered ledger.

Near the final pages was a section written in a different ink.

Five beneficiary numbers appeared.

Emily.

Daniel.

Samuel.

Clara.

And number five.

The name beside it had been scratched away.

But beneath the damage, one letter remained.

L.

Emily touched the page.

“Someone deliberately removed her.”

Marcus examined the ledger.

“This happened later,” he said. “The original ink is older than the damage.”

Grant looked at him.

“Richard?”

Marcus shook his head.

“No. Richard would have removed the entire entry. This was done carefully.”

“Then who?”

No one answered.

Emily suddenly remembered the death-trigger account.

Eleven years earlier.

The same year Robert disappeared.

The same year Lydia's identity vanished from the trust.

The same year Emily's savings began moving through accounts she knew nothing about.

She looked at Grant.

“Could the account have been created for Lydia?”

Grant checked the records.

“Possibly.”

The account's beneficiary designation had been hidden behind a coded trust reference.

Marcus entered the code into the bank system.

A second document appeared.

The death-trigger condition was not originally written for Emily.

It had been transferred.

From another beneficiary.

Grant stared at the screen.

“Who?”

Marcus whispered the answer.

“Lydia Hale.”

Emily felt the room go silent.

The account had once belonged to Lydia's protection fund.

Then someone had transferred the death condition to Emily.

That meant the threat against Emily was not random.

Someone had intentionally moved the target.

Emily stood slowly.

“Why would they move it from Lydia to me?”

Thomas looked at the ledger.

“Because they couldn't find Lydia.”

“And they knew they could find me.”

Nobody spoke.

Then Clara remembered something.

“Richard knew.”

Everyone turned.

“He told me something when he was holding Samuel.”

“What?”

Clara swallowed.

“He said the family had spent years protecting the wrong daughter.”

Emily's skin prickled.

“What exactly did he say?”

Clara closed her eyes.

“He said, ‘When the last Hale girl dies, the archive becomes mine.’”

The meaning was horrifying.

Richard had not been searching only for Clara.

He had been searching for Lydia.

And if Lydia was still alive, Richard might have known where she was.

Grant immediately ordered a search of Richard's seized belongings.

Within minutes, investigators found a notebook.

It contained addresses.

Dozens of them.

Most were crossed out.

Some belonged to former financial intermediaries.

Others were old properties connected to the trust.

But one address was different.

It was a small residential building in a neighboring state.

The name attached to the lease was not Lydia Hale.

It was Emily's birth surname.

Wilson.

Emily stared at the screen.

“That can't be a coincidence.”

Grant shook her head.

“No.”

Thomas recognized the address.

“I've seen it.”

“Where?”

“In Robert's records.”

Marcus searched the archive.

The address appeared again.

This time beside a handwritten note:

“Do not approach until Emily is safe.”

Emily's breathing stopped.

“Robert knew where she was.”

Thomas nodded.

“And he kept her hidden.”

“From Richard?”

“From everyone.”

Emily looked toward the hospital record.

The unknown fifth child had not been lost.

She had been protected.

But the protection had required an entire identity to disappear.

And now Emily had become the key to finding her.

Grant grabbed her coat.

“We go there.”

Emily nodded.

But before anyone could move, the lights in the archive flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then every device on the table shut down.

A phone began ringing.

It was Clara's.

She stared at the screen.

The caller ID showed no number.

She answered.

No one spoke.

Then a woman's voice whispered:

“Emily?”

Emily stepped closer.

The voice continued.

“If you're hearing this, Robert failed.”

Emily's heart stopped.

“Who are you?”

A
