contradictions.

At 9:22, a federal agent arrived with results from the insurance application.

The policy had been purchased through a broker named Robert Kline.

Kline had once worked for Gerald Nance.

And Nance, nine years earlier, had processed insurance instruments for companies associated with Victor Hale.

The old network was reappearing piece by Chloe’s August crash, North Pine Consulting transferred forty thousand dollars to an account controlled by Gerald Nance.

The memo field read CONSULTING.

A second transfer went to Robert Kline.

Twenty thousand.

The memo field read POLICY SERVICES.

The money moved after Chloe survived.

Not before.

Which raised a new possibility.

Perhaps those payments were compensation for completed work.

Or perhaps they were cleanup.

At 10:05, a search team entered Nance’s storage property.

Inside one locked cabinet, they found automotive tools.

Brake-line cutters.

Tubing equipment.

And a handwritten list of vehicle identification numbers.

One belonged to Chloe’s car.

She stared at the number for several seconds.

Then she looked at
