did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stood.<\/p>\n<p>Cross continued before I could respond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if you want to know why, come alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The call ended.<\/p>\n<p>A text arrived seconds later with an address.<\/p>\n<p>Frank looked it up.<\/p>\n<p>An abandoned church parking lot outside town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he said immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cross had asked for exactly that because he was frightened.<\/p>\n<p>But fear had already controlled this family for ten years.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marisa objected.<\/p>\n<p>Frank objected more loudly.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel picked up his coat.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of us listened.<\/p>\n<p>Because Samuel Cross had finally admitted he removed the missing pages.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere inside them was the truth Sarah had tried to preserve before the people around her rewrote the final hours of her
