sighed.

“Please stop saying that.”

Rachel whispered through the call, “Mom, where are you?”

“Still at the church.”

“Stay there.”

“I will.”

“Police are coming.”

“I know.”

“Don’t disappear.”

Elizabeth cried.

“I won’t.”

Rachel’s voice broke.

“Promise.”

“I promise.”

A different kind of promise.

Not protection.

Presence.

Then Daniel’s screen flashed.

Samuel’s legal team had filed an emergency challenge using the newly exposed bloodline discrepancies.

How did he know?

The archive release.

Or Elizabeth’s records had already leaked.

The filing claimed Ethan Hayes Mercer did not qualify for descendant protection because Liam was not biologically Thomas’s child.

Clara stared at the trust language.

Then smiled for the first time in hours.

Samuel had missed one word.

Legally acknowledged.

Thomas Mercer had signed my birth certificate.

Raised me.

Named me.

Built the trust around me.

Blood was irrelevant.

The challenge failed in less than thirty minutes.

Samuel lost again.

But Elizabeth’s last warning remained.

“The bloodlines are not the biggest correction.”

“What is?”

She answered quietly.

“Juniper House records who ordered the children Samuel.

Not Thomas.

Elaine.

Clara’s grip tightened around my hand.

And Elizabeth said the one sentence that reopened every question about my mother.

“She wasn’t hiding you from Harrington.”

I waited.

“She was hiding you from Peter.”

My biological
