alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara looked at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan we protect personal medical information unrelated to wrongdoing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelective redaction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca objected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFull release means full release.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou start redacting and everyone claims cover-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara turned toward her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublishing a nurse\u2019s home address from thirty-five years ago does not expose corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt proves chain of custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen preserve it for investigators and redact it publicly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca opened her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Clara cut her off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruth is not the same thing as maximum collateral damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret spoke softly over the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is what I forgot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca looked away.<\/p>\n<p>Clara began defining two release streams.<\/p>\n<p>Full unredacted archive to regulators and designated independent counsel.<\/p>\n<p>Public archive with protected medical identifiers, minors\u2019 information, personal addresses, and unrelated private records redacted.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is technically possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn hour for automated redaction, longer for perfect review.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t need perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca raised an eyebrow.<\/p>\n<p>Clara clarified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need defensible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Samuel\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>IF YOU RELEASE, I RELEASE THE LAST FILE TOO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe may publish Lucas unredacted first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara repository created by the protocol.<\/p>\n<p>At 11%, Samuel sent another message.<\/p>\n<p>STOP.<\/p>\n<p>At 17%:<\/p>\n<p>YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE RELEASING.<\/p>\n<p>At 26%:<\/p>\n<p>LIAM WILL LOSE MERCER.<\/p>\n<p>I watched the percentage rise.<\/p>\n<p>At 39%:<\/p>\n<p>THOMAS WILL GO TO PRISON.<\/p>\n<p>My father said, \u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 51%:<\/p>\n<p>MAYA WILL HATE YOU.<\/p>\n<p>Clara whispered, \u201cThat is her choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 68%:<\/p>\n<p>YOUR SON WILL INHERIT NOTHING.<\/p>\n<p>I looked through the glass toward the NICU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>I meant it.<\/p>\n<p>If inheritance required silence, my son could inherit my mistakes honestly instead.<\/p>\n<p>At 82%, Samuel members.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators.<\/p>\n<p>Reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Banks.<\/p>\n<p>The outside world had discovered that our private nightmare existed.<\/p>\n<p>Clara\u2019s phone rang too.<\/p>\n<p>Maya.<\/p>\n<p>She answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maya did not sound angry.<\/p>\n<p>She sounded frightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClara, there are federal agents outside my room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s expected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said they need to protect me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause the archive is public now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou released it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven my file?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo investigators.
