It keeps happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will injure you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just had surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can still reach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For one breath, the room felt human.<\/p>\n<p>Then Margaret said, \u201cThere is a limitation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClean-title restoration requires unanimous certification by three original protocol signatories still living.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We counted.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret.<\/p>\n<p>Peter.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>Four known living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich three?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny three except the party whose interests are directly affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is directly affected?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas, because Kitchen Table Trust is a Halcyon beneficiary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Thomas cannot certify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That left Margaret, Peter and Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>All three required.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He groaned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn was still in Chicago under legal supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Peter remained hidden.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret was in Maine.<\/p>\n<p>Three people who distrusted one another had to certify together.<\/p>\n<p>Clara looked at the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long before Halcyon administrators can restructure?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel checked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout nine hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we need Evelyn and Peter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret said, \u201cEvelyn will refuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe believes clean-title restoration destroys the family capital she spent her life protecting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I\u2019ll talk to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian rose too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think you can?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think she listens to the son who stayed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room went quiet.<\/p>\n<p>Julian had spent his entire life resenting that role.<\/p>\n<p>Now he was volunteering to use it.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel studied him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian looked at Clara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I already used loyalty once to hurt people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can use it differently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I did not forgive him.<\/p>\n<p>But I believed him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian did.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn answered on video.<\/p>\n<p>She saw the document.<\/p>\n<p>Read the clause.<\/p>\n<p>Her face hardened exactly as Margaret predicted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian leaned closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou haven\u2019t even heard the plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand the plan perfectly. Margaret surrenders Halcyon, Clara controls a restitution trust, regulators tear through every historical transaction, and family assets are frozen for years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot maybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen help structure the cleanest version.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stepped into view.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn\u2019s expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou spent twenty-five years telling yourself preservation was protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not philosophy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. It\u2019s accounting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed at Clara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd apparently we finally have someone in the family capable of doing it honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara gave him a look.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel glanced at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnclear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara looked away.<\/p>\n<p>My chest tightened.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn said, \u201cYou would surrender everything your grandfather built?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe built a machine that killed people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot everything he built was criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen the clean parts survive examination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t understand what exposure does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>He continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou taught me my whole life that the family survives by controlling information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice shook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe family survives. Everyone around it gets destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJulian\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI forged a divorce request because you told me Clara threatened the company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not tell you to forge anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. You taught me that preserving the system justified whatever came next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn recoiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was your choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He did not resist the accusation.<\/p>\n<p>That made her lose momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Julian continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my choice. I own it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara watched him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo own yours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>Julian said, \u201cCertify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen tell Liam why his son should inherit this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn went still.<\/p>\n<p>My son.<\/p>\n<p>Not capital.<\/p>\n<p>Not trusts.<\/p>\n<p>A child.<\/p>\n<p>Julian pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell him why a premature baby in an incubator should grow up owning secrets we are too afraid to expose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn looked toward me.<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>She needed to answer herself.<\/p>\n<p>Her eyes filled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted you safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian\u2019s face broke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The forbidden phrase.<\/p>\n<p>This time it meant something else.<\/p>\n<p>He continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd look what safe became.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>When she opened them, she looked older.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSend me the certification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret gave hers immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Two.<\/p>\n<p>Peter remained.<\/p>\n<p>I called him.<\/p>\n<p>No answer.<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel tried.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz tried.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Then Clara\u2019s phone vibrated.<\/p>\n<p>A text from an unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>PETER CANNOT CERTIFY.<\/p>\n<p>Below it:<\/p>\n<p>HE IS DEAD.<\/p>\n<p>A photograph followed.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Lawson sat slumped in the driver\u2019s seat of a car.<\/p>\n<p>Blood darkened his shirt.<\/p>\n<p>The time stamp was seven minutes old.<\/p>\n<p>And taped to the steering wheel was his custodian key.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=32121\">Click here to continue reading: PART 22: Peter Was Shot Before He Could Certify the Trust, but the Key on His Steering Wheel Was Not the One Thomas Gave Him<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several seconds after Margaret spoke, nobody in the consultation room moved.
