Every time he had told me I needed to be more responsible with money.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, millions of dollars had been sitting under my name without my knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Martin called before lunch.<\/p>\n<p>He had found transfers into the account from at least six companies.<\/p>\n<p>Four belonged to Dad.<\/p>\n<p>One was linked to Victor Lang, the former partner.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth had dissolved years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means the account collected money from several sources over a long period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould it be legitimate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you believe that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe legitimate money usually has a simpler explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That afternoon, Mom called from the house.<\/p>\n<p>Her voice shook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour father found the drawer open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My heart lurched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you okay?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he threaten you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe asked what I had taken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell him nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went upstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I heard a sound behind her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I grabbed my keys.<\/p>\n<p>Then Mom whispered, \u201cWait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just came back down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A door slammed in the background.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her breathing quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmily, he took the black notebook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is he going?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I ran toward my car.<\/p>\n<p>Before I reached it, Rachel called.<\/p>\n<p>I answered while moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour father\u2019s attorney just contacted me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrank wants to meet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does he want?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe says he\u2019ll explain the account in your name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Nora\u2019s house behind me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd in exchange?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does he want?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wants you to stop investigating Celeste Laurent.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=31762\">Click here to continue reading: PART 8: My Father Offered Me Millions to Stop Looking for Celeste, and His Explanation Revealed Why She Had Chosen Grant<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rachel told me not to touch the account.
