it would make what happens to you easier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not fair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I leaned back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He rubbed his hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to be this person forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat has nothing to do with whether I forgive you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me sharply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can it not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause changing is your work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room stayed quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou spent years deciding what other people needed,\u201d I said. \u201cHow much money I needed. What Noah needed. What investors could risk. What Carol should know.
