I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve intentionally hidden anything else, but after yesterday I understand why that assurance may not mean much.<\/p>\n<p>That last sentence hurt because it was accurate.<\/p>\n<p>I closed the email.<\/p>\n<p>Did not reply.<\/p>\n<p>For the next two days, I thought about the phrase chosen permanently.<\/p>\n<p>Liam had been terrified of closed doors.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica choosing Ethan closed one.<\/p>\n<p>Me moving in closed another.<\/p>\n<p>Commitment felt to him like losing possible selves.<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy was that in trying to keep every door open, he had destroyed the home he already had.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, I met Tom at a commercial job downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Halfway through replacing a contactor, he asked, \u201cYou ever going to take vacation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have eighty-six hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m aware.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to die with unused PTO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat seems financially irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake a week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I\u2019m tired of looking at you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Then realized he was partly serious.<\/p>\n<p>I had spent weeks working through everything.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe because work was stable.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe because stopping gave me too much time to think.<\/p>\n<p>That afternoon, I requested three days off the following month.<\/p>\n<p>Not for Liam.<\/p>\n<p>Not to recover.<\/p>\n<p>Just because.<\/p>\n<p>That evening, I bought a plant for the balcony.<\/p>\n<p>A small rosemary bush.<\/p>\n<p>I repotted it badly.<\/p>\n<p>Soil covered the floor.<\/p>\n<p>I laughed while cleaning it.<\/p>\n<p>Ordinary life.<\/p>\n<p>Mine.<\/p>\n<p>At nine, someone knocked.<\/p>\n<p>My doorbell camera showed Sarah.<\/p>\n<p>I opened immediately.<\/p>\n<p>She held ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou look suspiciously happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI bought a plant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is devastatingly adult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We sat on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>I told her about Jessica.<\/p>\n<p>All of it.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah listened.<\/p>\n<p>When I finished, she said, \u201cSo what happens now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She blinked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not confronting him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he already admitted it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not ending contact?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not seeing him again?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah studied me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou really mean nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I took another spoonful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spent years thinking every new piece of information required immediate action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes information is just information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds healthy and extremely annoying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But later, after Sarah left, I stood on the balcony beside the badly potted rosemary.<\/p>\n<p>One question remained.<\/p>\n<p>Not what Liam had done.<\/p>\n<p>Not why.<\/p>\n<p>Something harder.<\/p>\n<p>If he was finally telling the truth even when it made reconciliation less likely, was that evidence he had become safer?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>But safe enough to speak with was not necessarily safe enough to build a life with.<\/p>\n<p>That distinction had to remain.<\/p>\n<p>Because the next decision could not be about whether Liam deserved forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>It had to be about what I wanted my life to feel like when nobody was asking me to prove anything.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=31237\">Click here to continue reading: PART 26: Liam Asked for Nothing After Telling the Full Truth, but My Own Curiosity Led Me Toward a Conversation I Could No Longer Blame on Him<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I tightened my grip on the phone. \u201cWhat did you almost tell him?\u201d Jessica was silent long enough that I checked the screen to make sure the call had not &hellip;
