She never lived there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Victor\u2019s money.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s payments.<\/p>\n<p>A property Rebecca intended as escape.<\/p>\n<p>She abandoned it after discovering Daniel knew the address.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie had inherited it but never visited.<\/p>\n<p>Remote.<\/p>\n<p>Coastal.<\/p>\n<p>Three hours away.<\/p>\n<p>Police searched ownership records.<\/p>\n<p>The house still belonged to a trust Rebecca created.<\/p>\n<p>Utilities supposedly disconnected.<\/p>\n<p>A recent satellite utility ping showed electricity usage.<\/p>\n<p>Someone was there.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReeves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Police moved immediately.<\/p>\n<p>No one promised an ending.<\/p>\n<p>We had learned better than that.<\/p>\n<p>Forty minutes later, a tactical team reached the house.<\/p>\n<p>One vehicle outside.<\/p>\n<p>Registered under a false identity linked to Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>Thermal imaging showed one person inside.<\/p>\n<p>Then a second heat signature appeared.<\/p>\n<p>Smaller.<\/p>\n<p>Possibly injured.<\/p>\n<p>Agents entered.<\/p>\n<p>Gunshots followed.<\/p>\n<p>One officer wounded.<\/p>\n<p>Suspect fled through the rear toward the cliffs.<\/p>\n<p>A second person was found inside.<\/p>\n<p>Diane Mercer.<\/p>\n<p>Alive.<\/p>\n<p>Bleeding from a leg wound.<\/p>\n<p>Reeves had taken her from the maintenance house after police left?
