I don\u2019t care what dispatch says.<\/p>\n<p>I smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Then wrote beneath it:<\/p>\n<p>I never did.<\/p>\n<p>I left the note for him.<\/p>\n<p>Started the engine.<\/p>\n<p>Pulled out.<\/p>\n<p>No cameras.<\/p>\n<p>No executives.<\/p>\n<p>No reporter.<\/p>\n<p>No stranded billionaire.<\/p>\n<p>Just another route.<\/p>\n<p>At the interstate entrance, rain began.<\/p>\n<p>Light.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing like the storm.<\/p>\n<p>My wipers moved once across the windshield.<\/p>\n<p>Then again.<\/p>\n<p>A few miles later, traffic slowed.<\/p>\n<p>Hazard lights flashed ahead.<\/p>\n<p>A sedan sat on the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Flat tire.<\/p>\n<p>Driver already outside.<\/p>\n<p>Phone in hand.<\/p>\n<p>State patrol vehicle approaching from behind.<\/p>\n<p>They had help.<\/p>\n<p>I kept moving.<\/p>\n<p>That mattered too.<\/p>\n<p>Not every stopped car was mine to save.<\/p>\n<p>Not every crisis needed me.<\/p>\n<p>At the next exit, I stopped for coffee.<\/p>\n<p>My phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>Message from Briggs.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Vale trial date set.<\/p>\n<p>Another from Rebecca.<\/p>\n<p>Independent safety committee starts Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Another from Laura.<\/p>\n<p>Two words.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Then put the phone away.<\/p>\n<p>There was nothing useful to say back.<\/p>\n<p>Some endings do not require a reply.<\/p>\n<p>I returned to the truck.<\/p>\n<p>Checked the mirrors.<\/p>\n<p>Merged onto the highway.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time since this began, the road ahead felt like exactly what it was.<\/p>\n<p>A road.<\/p>\n<p>Not evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Not a test.<\/p>\n<p>Not a warning.<\/p>\n<p>Just the next mile.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30730\">Click here to continue reading: PART 33: Martin Vale\u2019s Trial Put Every Hidden Decision Into Public Record, but the Hardest Testimony Came From the Driver Who Survived<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The video lasted eleven minutes.
