Anyone who signed something, changed something or kept quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room went still.<\/p>\n<p>Briggs asked, \u201cWhere is it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEric hid it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul whispered, \u201cAaron.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He ignored him.<\/p>\n<p>Briggs said, \u201cTell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aaron hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I tell you over this line, Calvin gets there first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would he know you\u2019re talking?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he has access to old corporate security tools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miriam, still on speaker through Rebecca\u2019s phone, cursed softly.<\/p>\n<p>Briggs asked, \u201cWhere can we meet?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not coming to an office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cName a public place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAaron, we need to ensure your safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had eleven months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Briggs absorbed that.<\/p>\n<p>Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll give Marcus the location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I shook my head immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul said, \u201cAaron, don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued as if neither of us spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus isn\u2019t management. He isn\u2019t maintenance. He isn\u2019t federal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Briggs said, \u201cThat makes him less protected, not more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Exactly.<\/p>\n<p>I stepped toward the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAaron, listen to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not doing this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to understand what they did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, you don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice sharpened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe payments were not only for hiding maintenance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca looked at Briggs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aaron breathed once.<\/p>\n<p>Then said, \u201cThey paid people to redirect investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miriam whispered, \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsurance adjusters. Consultants.
