Vane.<\/p>\n<p>Several names I did not know.<\/p>\n<p>Then one I did.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Bell.<\/p>\n<p>The mechanic who had inspected my trailer.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca read farther.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked.<\/p>\n<p>My own name was there too.<\/p>\n<p>Not under management.<\/p>\n<p>Not under maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>Under a category Eric had labeled:<\/p>\n<p>DRIVERS AFFECTED \u2014 POSSIBLE UNDISCLOSED HAZARD.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Beside my name was a date.<\/p>\n<p>The same night I had been told a brake warning was only a sensor problem.<\/p>\n<p>Another column contained one short note.<\/p>\n<p>UNIT RELEASED AFTER INTERNAL OVERRIDE.<\/p>\n<p>I felt the room tilt slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul looked at the record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means somebody overrode the maintenance hold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hart opened the access history.<\/p>\n<p>The override authorization came from Calvin Roarke\u2019s credentials.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>I barely heard her.<\/p>\n<p>I was remembering that route.<\/p>\n<p>Wet pavement.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy load.<\/p>\n<p>Downhill grades outside Dayton.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing happened.<\/p>\n<p>That was the part my mind could not accept.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing happened.<\/p>\n<p>I had come home.<\/p>\n<p>I had kissed Sarah.<\/p>\n<p>I had helped Chloe with homework.<\/p>\n<p>I never knew anything almost had.<\/p>\n<p>That night could have gone differently without me ever understanding why.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the hidden ledger again.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan had died.<\/p>\n<p>Sam had crashed.<\/p>\n<p>Others had been hurt.<\/p>\n<p>I had simply been lucky.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time
