You either call me or I start releasing everything publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas looked alarmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should not have done that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel hit send.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thirty seconds passed.<\/p>\n<p>The phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel answered.<\/p>\n<p>No one breathed.<\/p>\n<p>For several seconds there was only static.<\/p>\n<p>Then a voice.<\/p>\n<p>Older than Daniel remembered.<\/p>\n<p>Weaker.<\/p>\n<p>Still unmistakable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s eyes closed.<\/p>\n<p>Five years of grief collapsed into one syllable.<\/p>\n<p>He opened them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen this conversation ends now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel nearly hung up.<\/p>\n<p>His father spoke again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared at the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor which funeral?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward went silent.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s voice hardened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you know Anna was in danger?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas looked away.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you know somebody had been inside her car?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you did nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat isn\u2019t true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what did you do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sent someone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every head turned toward him.<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked stunned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward continued through the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told Richard to stop her from driving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard stepped forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never received that instruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>Edward\u2019s voice sharpened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s tone changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI swear to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward said, \u201cHe is lying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked directly at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk him what number he called.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel did.<\/p>\n<p>Edward hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>Then gave it.<\/p>\n<p>Richard immediately pulled out his phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was my old office line. It had been deactivated months earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho had it forwarded?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked toward Eleanor.<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor\u2019s face went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>Richard asked again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho had access to the telecom routing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor whispered the answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus Whitmore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel went still.<\/p>\n<p>The anonymous messages.<\/p>\n<p>The archive access.<\/p>\n<p>The altered credentials.<\/p>\n<p>The school authorization.<\/p>\n<p>A pattern of systems, money, and identities.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel raised the flip phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad, did you trust Marcus Whitmore?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward\u2019s breathing changed.<\/p>\n<p>Then he said something no one expected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hired him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore my death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward answered:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo infiltrate Hartwell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The line went dead.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30637\">Click here to continue reading: PART 11: Marcus Whitmore Was Supposed to Be Edward\u2019s Inside Man, but Anna\u2019s Files Suggested He Had Eventually Started Working for Both Sides<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel\u2019s first instinct was denial.
