phone flew sideways.<\/p>\n<p>The image spun.<\/p>\n<p>We heard shouting.<\/p>\n<p>Melinda screamed.<\/p>\n<p>Then a metallic crack.<\/p>\n<p>The feed showed only concrete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMove!\u201d Morales shouted into his radio.<\/p>\n<p>Tactical officers entered.<\/p>\n<p>Gunfire sounded once.<\/p>\n<p>Then twice.<\/p>\n<p>Connor lunged toward the screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMelinda!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No answer.<\/p>\n<p>A blast shook the camera.<\/p>\n<p>Not the main explosives.<\/p>\n<p>Something smaller.<\/p>\n<p>Dust filled the image.<\/p>\n<p>The connection died.<\/p>\n<p>For the next forty-three seconds, nobody in our room knew who was alive.<\/p>\n<p>Then Morales\u2019s radio erupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHostage located.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pressed the receiver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCondition?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connor closed his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlive. Gunshot wound to shoulder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExplosives?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDevice recovered. Bomb squad moving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Melinda?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morales listened.<\/p>\n<p>Then looked toward me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s conscious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>Connor gripped the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about the chain?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re cutting it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since the hospital hallway where this began, Connor looked at me without trying to control what I saw.<\/p>\n<p>Relief.<\/p>\n<p>Shame.<\/p>\n<p>Fear.<\/p>\n<p>All of it.<\/p>\n<p>Then Morales\u2019s phone rang again.<\/p>\n<p>His expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He listened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere did you find it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon&#39;t touch anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He ended the call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d Kenneth asked.<\/p>\n<p>Morales looked toward Walter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTactical found Raymond\u2019s hidden archive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walter went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a locked cabinet inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s in it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don&#39;t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morales looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the label on the cabinet says SINCLAIR.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My maiden name.<\/p>\n<p>My family.<\/p>\n<p>Not Connor.<\/p>\n<p>Not Fleming.<\/p>\n<p>Me.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30544\">Click here to continue reading: PART 26: Raymond\u2019s Hidden File on My Family Proved Connor Had Not Chosen Me by Accident, and Walter Knew Why Before We Ever Married<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Connor did not answer immediately.
