Never knew the name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the insider is still unidentified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd may still be working with Victor Jr.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid says the contact warned him that Victor Jr.\u2019s attorney filed something this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA challenge to Noah\u2019s trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On what grounds?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor Senior\u2019s competency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura\u2019s face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was competent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor Jr. is claiming otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz\u2019s voice hardened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA medical evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat doctor?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She gave the name.<\/p>\n<p>I knew it.<\/p>\n<p>Not personally.<\/p>\n<p>Professionally.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Adrian Cole.<\/p>\n<p>A psychiatrist affiliated with St. Matthew\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The same hospital where false sedative prescriptions had been created in my name.<\/p>\n<p>The same hospital where Evelyn Mercer once hid documents.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth asked, \u201cWhen did Cole evaluate Victor Senior?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree weeks before his death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exact period when the trust changed.<\/p>\n<p>I felt a slow dread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he conclude?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz read from the filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCognitive impairment sufficient to question complex testamentary decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura whispered, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that evaluation holds,\u201d Kenneth said, \u201cthe trust amendment could be invalidated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prior beneficiary structure controls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor Jr.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Victor had planned for his father\u2019s death from both directions.<\/p>\n<p>If he escaped conviction, he could argue for inheritance.<\/p>\n<p>If the murder case held, he could attack Noah\u2019s trust as invalid.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s one more problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Cole\u2019s report references corroborating medical records from St. Matthew\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I already knew what she was going to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho had access?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKirsten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe records were entered under an administrative credential linked to your department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My blood went cold.<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>My name.<\/p>\n<p>My workplace.<\/p>\n<p>My access.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal version of me had not been finished.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth said, \u201cSomeone is still using the infrastructure Victor built around Kirsten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr did before his arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entries are dated six weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same week Victor Senior contacted Melinda.<\/p>\n<p>The same week Laura reappeared.<\/p>\n<p>The same week everything began to move.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Laura.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictor Senior was trying to expose his son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd someone began building a competency case against him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo neutralize anything he changed before death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A perfect contingency.<\/p>\n<p>Unless we could prove the medical records had been fabricated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho could do that?\u201d Melinda asked.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody answered.<\/p>\n<p>I thought of hospital access.<\/p>\n<p>Old codes.<\/p>\n<p>Archived systems.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca had worked as a fertility coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn once held privileges there.<\/p>\n<p>Melinda knew my locker.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Jr. had people.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron had forged documents.<\/p>\n<p>But psychiatric records were different.<\/p>\n<p>Someone with medical access had helped.<\/p>\n<p>Someone still invisible.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Ruiz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind out who Dr. Cole spoke to before he evaluated Victor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My phone vibrated.<\/p>\n<p>An internal hospital email.<\/p>\n<p>I nearly ignored it.<\/p>\n<p>Then I saw the subject line.<\/p>\n<p>URGENT COMPLIANCE NOTICE \u2014 DR.
