Smaller ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was this fund?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalie said, \u201cMaybe restitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe Martin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard looked toward his father\u2019s note.<\/p>\n<p>M.K. not finished.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Everett had not meant Martin was still dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps he meant Martin still owed money.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Lake Ridge Holdings had become a private mechanism for collecting it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Martin owed Dad,\u201d Leonard said slowly, \u201cand Calvin helped track records\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen Calvin may have been helping recover assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Celia?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBookkeeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leonard remembered Gloria saying Celia helped Calvin with paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>The family web tightened again.<\/p>\n<p>Then Natalie asked the question nobody had asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened to Lake Ridge Holdings after Everett died?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>They all turned toward the laptop.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie searched.<\/p>\n<p>The company remained active.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard\u2019s heart sank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho runs it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The registered agent changed after Everett\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Then again after Ruth died.<\/p>\n<p>Then once more after Calvin died.<\/p>\n<p>The newest filing listed a manager.<\/p>\n<p>North Creek Asset Services.<\/p>\n<p>Gloria\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>Not really hers.<\/p>\n<p>But legally tied to her.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Martin had not created something entirely new.<\/p>\n<p>He had connected two old structures.<\/p>\n<p>His father\u2019s recovery vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Calvin\u2019s asset company.<\/p>\n<p>Gloria\u2019s trustee status.<\/p>\n<p>Dale\u2019s debts.<\/p>\n<p>Everything had been layered so that responsibility moved through dead people and confused relatives.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard looked at Reed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why they needed Gloria distracted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why they needed me angry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why the house mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed held his gaze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leonard exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>For once, he was grateful for the word.<\/p>\n<p>Because the alternative was certainty.<\/p>\n<p>And certainty had nearly destroyed all of them already.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30384\">Click here to continue reading: PART 14: A Hidden Amendment to Everett\u2019s Trust Changed Dale\u2019s Position Completely and Revealed Why Martin Needed Leonard Alive but Discredited<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leonard stayed parked at the stop sign long after Reed ended the call.
