Heard woman shouting, \u201cYou will not take my son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel read it aloud.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Another note:<\/p>\n<p>Man replied: \u201cThe baby is already gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s hand began shaking.<\/p>\n<p>Vega pointed to the next line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMendez said she heard another voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe believed a second man was present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vega did not answer.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou promised she wouldn\u2019t survive this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room went cold.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the handwriting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Mendez identify either man?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSalcedo?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the other?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGabriel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vega shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said the second voice was not the man who had come earlier asking about the police report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not our father.<\/p>\n<p>Someone else.<\/p>\n<p>That should have been a relief.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>It meant the conspiracy was larger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho could it have been?\u201d Paola asked.<\/p>\n<p>Vega looked toward the final page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a name Teresa mentioned when she first filed the report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat name?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed.<\/p>\n<p>Roberto Robles.<\/p>\n<p>Teresa\u2019s adoptive father.<\/p>\n<p>Rosa\u2019s husband.<\/p>\n<p>Vega said quietly, \u201cThe ten-year-old told me Roberto came home unexpectedly the night Marisol disappeared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeresa told us he was away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe may not remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr someone taught her not to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vega nodded.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel closed the file.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened to Roberto?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paola answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe died when I was ten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Teresa was how old?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I remembered the photograph of Teresa with him.<\/p>\n<p>Normal family history.<\/p>\n<p>Normal grandfather.<\/p>\n<p>Another man now connected to a motel room, a disappeared woman, and the theft of a newborn.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is he buried?\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30271\">Click here to continue reading: PART 12: At Roberto\u2019s Grave We Found the One Person Still Leaving Flowers, and She Claimed Marisol Had Survived the River Night<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The old river road no longer looked like a place capable of swallowing a person.
