you\u2019re the idiot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad stared.<\/p>\n<p>Then laughed despite himself.<\/p>\n<p>Harold handed his phone to the sheriff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll go under your conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad said, \u201cI\u2019m coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold looked at him with the authority of someone who had spent forty-six years cleaning up other people\u2019s paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClara made me the independent witness because she needed one person outside your family\u2019s emotional machinery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Victor raised an eyebrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRude.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold looked at Dad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me do the job she gave me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad\u2019s face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>Then he nodded.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff prepared the operation.<\/p>\n<p>Harold would approach the old office.<\/p>\n<p>Police would surround it.<\/p>\n<p>No private negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>No unmonitored entry.<\/p>\n<p>Martin wanted Harold\u2019s objection.<\/p>\n<p>We would give him one.<\/p>\n<p>As Harold left, Dad called after him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He turned.<\/p>\n<p>Dad hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t make me find another lawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou couldn\u2019t afford me now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then he walked out.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty minutes later, through the live police feed, we watched Harold enter the old office building.<\/p>\n<p>The lobby lights were off.<\/p>\n<p>One lamp burned upstairs.<\/p>\n<p>Harold climbed.<\/p>\n<p>His voice came through clearly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartin?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A door opened.<\/p>\n<p>Martin stepped into view.<\/p>\n<p>No weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Behind him sat Raymond.<\/p>\n<p>Alive.<\/p>\n<p>Robert lay on the floor beside the wall, conscious but bleeding from the forehead.<\/p>\n<p>Harold stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Martin held Mom\u2019s emergency document.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou came.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold answered, \u201cApparently Clara expected me to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe expected everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. She understood everyone. Different thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin\u2019s smile faded.<\/p>\n<p>Harold pointed at the altered document.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t inherit my authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t need to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why bring me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked toward Raymond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he won\u2019t say the final phrase unless you tell him Edward is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold stared at Raymond.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond looked frightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEddie safe?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold answered immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raymond relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>Martin said, \u201cNow tell him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin\u2019s hand disappeared into his coat.<\/p>\n<p>Police outside tensed.<\/p>\n<p>Harold remained still.<\/p>\n<p>Martin withdrew not a gun but a photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Mom.<\/p>\n<p>Victor.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond.<\/p>\n<p>Harold.<\/p>\n<p>Taken decades ago at a picnic.<\/p>\n<p>Martin held it toward Raymond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is missing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raymond stared.<\/p>\n<p>His face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJames.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>Martin nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere did James put Edward\u2019s route?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raymond began shaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRaymond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin stepped closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raymond looked toward Harold.<\/p>\n<p>Then whispered, \u201cClara said only when Eddie loses his name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold froze.<\/p>\n<p>Martin did too.<\/p>\n<p>That was the final trigger.<\/p>\n<p>Dad had to lose his name.<\/p>\n<p>Not die.<\/p>\n<p>Not disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Lose legal control of his identity.<\/p>\n<p>Martin\u2019s entire plan suddenly made sense.<\/p>\n<p>He had been trying to create that condition.<\/p>\n<p>Dad whispered beside me, watching the feed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe needs them to declare me fraudulent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold understood too.<\/p>\n<p>Martin did not want to become Harold.<\/p>\n<p>He wanted Harold to certify that Edward Cole\u2019s identity had become compromised.<\/p>\n<p>That would activate Mom\u2019s emergency route.<\/p>\n<p>And reveal whatever clean identity she had prepared for Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Martin smiled slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow we know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold looked straight at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin turned toward Robert.<\/p>\n<p>Then, for the first time, drew a gun.<\/p>\n<p>Dad surged toward the door of the command room.<\/p>\n<p>Officers stopped him.<\/p>\n<p>On the feed, Martin aimed at Robert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertify Edward compromised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harold did not move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin\u2019s voice was flat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert dies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robert laughed weakly from the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked down.<\/p>\n<p>Robert met Harold\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t give him anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin tightened his grip.<\/p>\n<p>Harold said quietly, \u201cRobert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robert shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI made enough fake people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice cracked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t make another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin fired.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=30016\">Click here to continue reading: PART 30: Robert\u2019s Last Refusal Broke Martin\u2019s Leverage, but Raymond Finally Revealed the Identity Clara Had Prepared for Dad<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harold read Mom\u2019s line again.
