HALE LEGACY MATERIAL.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur stared.<\/p>\n<p>Lily whispered, \u201cLegacy material?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He thought of his missing attic folder.<\/p>\n<p>The notebooks.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Mallory.<\/p>\n<p>The case that had died fifteen years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Richard had married Lily as part of a plan built around something Arthur possessed without even knowing he still possessed it.<\/p>\n<p>But the page contained one more line.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes enlarged the image.<\/p>\n<p>SECONDARY METHOD: FAMILY ACCESS \/ TRUST DEVELOPMENT.<\/p>\n<p>Lily stopped breathing for a second.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur reached for her.<\/p>\n<p>She recoiled\u2014not from him, but from the words.<\/p>\n<p>Her marriage.<\/p>\n<p>Her courtship.<\/p>\n<p>Richard\u2019s questions about Margaret.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Calder\u2019s introduction.<\/p>\n<p>The apparently accidental familiarity.<\/p>\n<p>All of it had been designed.<\/p>\n<p>Then Reyes\u2019s phone rang again.<\/p>\n<p>She answered.<\/p>\n<p>Her eyes widened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arthur demanded.<\/p>\n<p>She lowered the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey found the missing folder from your attic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arthur stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the storage property?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was inside?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reyes looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arthur\u2019s stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmpty?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcept for one handwritten note.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His own forgotten material had been stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever once filled that folder was gone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat note?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reyes read it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMallory gave Hale the original.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arthur felt the room tilt.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s old witness.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Mallory.<\/p>\n<p>The man who vanished fifteen years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Lily whispered, \u201cOriginal what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arthur had no answer.<\/p>\n<p>Then an old memory, buried beneath illness, retirement, grief, and years of deliberate forgetting, finally surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>A frightened man in a parking garage.<\/p>\n<p>A sealed brown envelope pressed into Arthur\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n<p>Mallory saying, If they get to me, don\u2019t let them get this.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur gripping his shoulder and promising they would speak again the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>They never did.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur sat down heavily.<\/p>\n<p>Lily stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He could see the envelope now.<\/p>\n<p>He remembered taking it home.<\/p>\n<p>He remembered Margaret calling from the bedroom because she was sick.<\/p>\n<p>He remembered setting the envelope somewhere safe.<\/p>\n<p>Then hospital visits.<\/p>\n<p>Chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>The collapse of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Mallory disappearing.<\/p>\n<p>Life narrowing to his dying wife and teenage daughter.<\/p>\n<p>The envelope had vanished from Arthur\u2019s conscious memory.<\/p>\n<p>But somebody else had spent fifteen years remembering it.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes crouched in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArthur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what they\u2019ve been looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=29790\">Click here to continue reading: PART 9: Arthur Finally Remembered What Mallory Had Given Him, but the Place He Hid It Was Tied to Lily\u2019s Most Painful Childhood Memory<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chief Wallace asked for Agent Reyes shortly before dawn.
