Come get it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agents behind the glass reacted.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus became silent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou spent years watching me from parking lots, cabins, photographs, files. Enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to meet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s brave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. I\u2019m tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll decide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou still think Reynolds controls this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked through the glass at Reynolds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat makes you think he doesn\u2019t?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Ross took the ring from federal custody using a route Reynolds approved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My eyes narrowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou said Ross took it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo trade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That changed everything again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElena has Ross.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know he intended to meet her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe vanished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe does that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does Ward want with the ring?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSame thing I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarbor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut she already knows the money began with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wants proof Sarah stole it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if she gets proof?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus\u2019s voice turned quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019ll come for Sarah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Reynolds.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah was in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Visible.<\/p>\n<p>Protected.<\/p>\n<p>Or so we had kept telling ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou still think walls decide who can reach people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My hand tightened around the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhrase. In exchange, I tell you where Ross was going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do I know he\u2019s alive?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen no deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve changed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah did that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at my reflection in the dark window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Then Marcus said something unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The line disconnected.<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds entered the room immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was reckless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe talked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou invited a fugitive to meet you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wants the phrase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know if he\u2019ll meet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he doesn\u2019t trust anyone else to confirm it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds looked angry.<\/p>\n<p>Then thoughtful.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah joined by secure call minutes later.<\/p>\n<p>We told her about Ward\u2019s key.<\/p>\n<p>Her face became completely still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoss couldn\u2019t have it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus says he took it from Harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Ward\u2019s key was never in Harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>I already knew before she answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomewhere connected to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>I almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn your father\u2019s grave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every sound in the room seemed to disappear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you put there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA sealed ledger key.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the funeral.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My hands began to shake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou used my father\u2019s grave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI needed somewhere Marcus would never disturb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe photographed me there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe not what I hid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe knows now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen Ross didn\u2019t take Ward\u2019s key from Harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe took it from the cemetery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds was already standing.<\/p>\n<p>I thought of the photograph from locker 417.<\/p>\n<p>Me beside my father\u2019s grave.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus watching from a distance.<\/p>\n<p>A place I believed grief had made private.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing had been private.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere exactly?\u201d Reynolds asked.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah gave him the cemetery name.<\/p>\n<p>Then a detail only family would know.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the base of the memorial bench beside the grave.<\/p>\n<p>My father\u2019s bench.<\/p>\n<p>The one I had paid for.<\/p>\n<p>The one Sarah had insisted we install.<\/p>\n<p>Agents reached the cemetery before midnight.<\/p>\n<p>The bench had been disturbed.<\/p>\n<p>One mounting bolt was newer than the others.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the hollow base was nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Only a strip of torn plastic.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had removed the package recently.<\/p>\n<p>Security cameras at the cemetery entrance were old but functional.<\/p>\n<p>Footage showed Ross\u2019s car entering four nights earlier.<\/p>\n<p>He stayed twenty-two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Then left.<\/p>\n<p>Two hours later, a second vehicle arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Elena Ward stepped out.<\/p>\n<p>She walked alone toward my father\u2019s grave.<\/p>\n<p>And never appeared on the exit camera.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=29792\">Click here to continue reading: PART 21: Elena Ward Vanished From the Cemetery, but the Camera She Left Behind Showed Who Reached My Father\u2019s Grave Before Her<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once Sarah said it, everything stopped.
