No estate value.<\/p>\n<p>No supporting document.<\/p>\n<p>No date.<\/p>\n<p>No signature from William.<\/p>\n<p>Just Tyler\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was enough?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt should not have been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet it was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe attorney relied on information provided by the family and tax records that were incomplete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamily meaning Tyler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this case, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I felt tired again.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa called later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe may need to reopen William\u2019s estate formally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may become public record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought of Tyler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou sound certain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat changed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at my notebook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor weeks I\u2019ve been asking whether protecting the company should affect what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI finally understand that correcting ownership is how we protect it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa was silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then she said, \u201cThat is exactly right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The petition was prepared.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler did not object.<\/p>\n<p>That surprised me.<\/p>\n<p>When I asked him why, he said, \u201cBecause Dad told you to do it properly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A small answer.<\/p>\n<p>A meaningful one.<\/p>\n<p>Three days later, another document surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>Not from Tyler.<\/p>\n<p>From the county.<\/p>\n<p>William had taken out a line of credit secured by the south yard five years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The balance should have been zero.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>There was still $142,000 outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>I called Raymond immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was the money used for?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He searched the records.<\/p>\n<p>Then found it.<\/p>\n<p>A transfer from William\u2019s property line into Tyler\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>Another rescue.<\/p>\n<p>Another debt secured by something meant to protect me.<\/p>\n<p>And unlike the others, this loan was still being paid automatically from an account funded by William\u2019s estate investments.<\/p>\n<p>My money.<\/p>\n<p>I had been servicing a business debt for almost a year without knowing it.<\/p>\n<p>When Melissa explained the records, I sat very still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo while Tyler charged me nine hundred dollars a month\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was also paying the loan on the property his company used for free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed.<\/p>\n<p>There was nothing else to do.<\/p>\n<p>Then Melissa said, \u201cThere\u2019s more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course there was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe loan documents contain a personal guarantee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWilliam\u2019s?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stopped laughing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe document has your signature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My skin went cold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSend it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The PDF arrived.<\/p>\n<p>I opened it.<\/p>\n<p>There was my name.<\/p>\n<p>There was a signature that looked like mine.<\/p>\n<p>And beneath it was a date from five years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike William\u2019s transfer, I had no immediate memory of where I had been that day.<\/p>\n<p>No hospital.<\/p>\n<p>No obvious contradiction.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at my own supposed signature.<\/p>\n<p>Then at the loan amount.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since this began, the question was not whether Tyler had forged William\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>It was whether somebody had also used mine.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=29681\">Click here to continue reading: PART 14: A Loan Against William\u2019s Land Carried My Signature Too, and I Had to Decide Whether My Own Memory Could Be Trusted<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe deed is still in Dad\u2019s name.\u201d Tyler\u2019s admission settled over the conference room with a weight I could almost feel.
