Just you and me.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Another message came.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll tell you everything.<\/p>\n<p>Then a third.<\/p>\n<p>There are things Dad did that you won\u2019t like either.<\/p>\n<p>That one stopped me.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, I had been sorting everyone into simpler categories.<\/p>\n<p>William, careful.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler, secretive.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica, complicit.<\/p>\n<p>Me, foolish.<\/p>\n<p>But William had hidden the business ownership from me.<\/p>\n<p>He had hidden the loans.<\/p>\n<p>He had hidden how serious Tyler\u2019s problems were.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Tyler was not the only person whose version of our family had been incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>I forwarded the messages to Melissa.<\/p>\n<p>She called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you want to meet him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe asked for just us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s my son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is also involved in a disputed ownership transaction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I hated hearing those two descriptions together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan we meet somewhere neutral?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo lawyers at the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa was silent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMelissa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not my preference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I need to hear him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She agreed only if Diane waited nearby and I did not sign anything, accept any documents without copying them, or promise anything.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning, Tyler chose a quiet restaurant near the river.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived first.<\/p>\n<p>He came in ten minutes later.<\/p>\n<p>He looked exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since William\u2019s funeral, my son looked older than I remembered him.<\/p>\n<p>He sat across from me.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of us touched the menus.<\/p>\n<p>Finally I said, \u201cYou wanted to tell me everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler rubbed his hands together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI made mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad was going to take the company away from me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe owned twenty-five percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had leverage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause you borrowed too much?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler looked startled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you found that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked toward the window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was drowning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The answer hurt more than I expected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you never told me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad told me not to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said you worried too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounded like William.<\/p>\n<p>It also made me angry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened before surgery?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad and I fought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said if I didn\u2019t restructure the debt, he\u2019d block any sale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe threatened to force an audit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds sensible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was humiliating me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. He was asking for numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou weren\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have the emails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>Then I asked the question that mattered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid William sign that transfer?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler looked directly at me.<\/p>\n<p>For several seconds, he said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Then his eyes dropped to the table.<\/p>\n<p>And before he spoke, I knew the answer would change everything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=29676\">Click here to continue reading: PART 9: My Son Admitted the Signature Was False, but the Reason He Gave Made My Husband\u2019s Final Months Even Harder to Understand<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
