Your room is empty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked around my sunroom.<\/p>\n<p>Morning light lay across the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, Tyler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Then his breathing changed.<\/p>\n<p>I expected anger.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe worry.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe even the beginning of an apology.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, my son said something that made every uncomfortable moment of the previous six months rearrange itself in my mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, you can\u2019t just leave.
