said, \u201cRats and ships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not entirely wrong,\u201d Richard said.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re supposed to be the restrained one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We all were.<\/p>\n<p>Near midnight, Renee called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan we come home tomorrow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>Elena had said the immediate physical threat was lower with Aaron arrested and Samuel recovered.<\/p>\n<p>Silas remained missing.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline\u2019s role was unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Mercer\u2019s loyalties uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lily came onto the difficult to escape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he fight bad guys?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot exactly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kept proof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lily considered this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds boring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt probably was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen how is it brave?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he kept doing the right thing even when nobody could see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was quiet.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds like Grandpa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My eyes burned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the call, I carried Harold\u2019s photograph upstairs.<\/p>\n<p>Not evidence.<\/p>\n<p>A duplicate family photograph Detective Shah allowed me to
