speakerphone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen he switched vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The detective nodded.<\/p>\n<p>Before anyone said more, my phone vibrated on the table.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>Every person in the room froze.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Shah gestured for me not to touch it until she was ready.<\/p>\n<p>Then she nodded.<\/p>\n<p>I opened the message.<\/p>\n<p>No greeting.<\/p>\n<p>No demand.<\/p>\n<p>Just one photograph.<\/p>\n<p>The image showed Harold\u2019s old storage unit.<\/p>\n<p>Unit 314.<\/p>\n<p>Taken from inside the corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Beneath it:<\/p>\n<p>You found the wrong box.<\/p>\n<p>A second message arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Ask where Harold put the original ledger.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Samuel.<\/p>\n<p>He looked confused.<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked at the gray box.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a copy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samuel shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was the only one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then memory struck me.<\/p>\n<p>Not Samuel.<\/p>\n<p>Me.<\/p>\n<p>Harold hated leaving originals with anyone.<\/p>\n<p>Tax papers.<\/p>\n<p>Wills.<\/p>\n<p>Insurance documents.<\/p>\n<p>He always kept one set himself.<\/p>\n<p>I stood so quickly the chair scraped backward.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s words from childhood came back.<\/p>\n<p>Dad keeps important things where nobody would think they\u2019re important.<\/p>\n<p>Richard said, \u201cMargaret?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I already knew.<\/p>\n<p>The old house.<\/p>\n<p>Not storage.<\/p>\n<p>Not Samuel.<\/p>\n<p>Our old house.<\/p>\n<p>Harold\u2019s real records had never left the
