Me. Our estate attorney. The broker involved in the purchase. The trust administrator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd security?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA private company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s already more than nobody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about my wedding attorney?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiane?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I watched dark trees move past the window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen someone inside your circle talked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither parent argued.<\/p>\n<p>We reached the property shortly after midnight.<\/p>\n<p>The house in the photograph looked even more isolated in person.<\/p>\n<p>White stone rose behind a sweeping lawn. again.<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t open the message.<\/p>\n<p>I looked instead at the folders of surveillance photographs and the document describing how my marriage would become a mechanism for acquiring everything I owned.<\/p>\n<p>My mother stood beside me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSophie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her voice was barely above a whisper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to assume they know far more about you than we thought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the confiscated laptop.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time that night, I understood that leaving the wedding had not
