I do not.<\/p>\n<p>I read that sentence again.<\/p>\n<p>Exactly.<\/p>\n<p>Dad had identified Garrett\u2019s moral framework years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Another document contained account schedules.<\/p>\n<p>Insurance proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing stake.<\/p>\n<p>Joint accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Everything Mom hid.<\/p>\n<p>Then a memo titled:<\/p>\n<p>Family Financial Contingency.<\/p>\n<p>Not secret assets.<\/p>\n<p>Not instructions to accuse.<\/p>\n<p>A map.<\/p>\n<p>What existed.<\/p>\n<p>Who owned what.<\/p>\n<p>What should pass to whom.<\/p>\n<p>And one explicit instruction:<\/p>\n<p>No Ross-related entity is authorized to receive, manage, borrow against, guarantee, advise, or invest Dalton family funds after my death.<\/p>\n<p>Clear.<\/p>\n<p>Specific.<\/p>\n<p>Documented.<\/p>\n<p>Mom had violated it.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett had overridden it.<\/p>\n<p>The suspected authorization letter claiming Dad gave Garrett authority became even more absurd.<\/p>\n<p>Dad had written the exact opposite.<\/p>\n<p>I called Mom.<\/p>\n<p>She came to David\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>I showed her the paragraph.<\/p>\n<p>She read it.<\/p>\n<p>Then sat down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never saw this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had the original attorney envelope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI gave it to Andrew unopened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is it now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew had withdrawn from the trust representation.<\/p>\n<p>David contacted him.<\/p>\n<p>He remembered receiving an estate envelope.<\/p>\n<p>His answer chilled me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGarrett collected it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d David asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said Elaine requested return of family originals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom shook her head violently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you authorize him in writing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew went quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why give it to him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believed he was acting for the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belief.<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett had acquired Dad\u2019s original warning file.<\/p>\n<p>He knew exactly what it contained.<\/p>\n<p>That explained the forged authorization letter.<\/p>\n<p>It was not created because nobody knew Dad\u2019s wishes.<\/p>\n<p>It was created because Garrett knew Dad\u2019s wishes and needed paperwork saying the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, Christopher Vale produced one more email.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett to Richard, seven years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Benton copy may exist. Need to neutralize Paul restrictions if Elaine moves forward.<\/p>\n<p>My hands went cold.<\/p>\n<p>Neutralize.<\/p>\n<p>Not misunderstand.<\/p>\n<p>Not reinterpret.<\/p>\n<p>Neutralize.<\/p>\n<p>Another:<\/p>\n<p>If originals surface later, broad family consent plus performance should make challenge impractical.<\/p>\n<p>Broad family consent.<\/p>\n<p>Created through vague signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Fake emails.<\/p>\n<p>Backdated resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>Years of apparent cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Performance.<\/p>\n<p>Properties appreciating.<\/p>\n<p>Challenge impractical.<\/p>\n<p>That was the strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Make the structure profitable enough and longstanding enough that truth became inconvenient.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at David.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan Dad\u2019s file unwind everything?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The answer surprised me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause later transactions still require individual legal analysis. Some lenders may have acted in good faith. Some documents may be enforceable in part.
