by people who can give us more than Gerald Lawson ever could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the evidence table.<\/p>\n<p>Even cornered, Gerald was trying to make everyone else more valuable as a target than he was.<\/p>\n<p>But Pike had not finished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe also says he can prove Samuel caused Eleanor\u2019s crash deliberately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd can he?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pike looked at us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe claims the proof was never in the notebook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInside Eleanor\u2019s car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe car was destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gerald knew that.<\/p>\n<p>Which meant either he was lying.<\/p>\n<p>Or something had been removed before destruction.<\/p>\n<p>Pike looked toward the evidence from the marina safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGerald says Thomas Vale took it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christopher, standing near the doorway under guard, went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy uncle?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pike answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA piece of Eleanor\u2019s dashboard camera.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christopher stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas never told me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gerald had waited until his own leverage was collapsing to reveal one more hidden object.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere, perhaps inside
