bookkeeping.<\/p>\n<p>I framed it.<\/p>\n<p>Then one afternoon, an envelope arrived from the university.<\/p>\n<p>Inside was a photograph from commencement.<\/p>\n<p>Not the slap.<\/p>\n<p>Not the became less frightening when she could name it herself.<\/p>\n<p>A woman walking across a stage after everyone who controlled her story had lost the ability to finish her sentence.<\/p>\n<p>I thought that might be the ending.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#39;t.<\/p>\n<p>One final court notice arrived the next week.<\/p>\n<p>Blackbird recovery had produced enough money for another restitution distribution.<\/p>\n<p>My approved personal recovery would be larger than expected.<\/p>\n<p>Enough to pay off my remaining student debt.<\/p>\n<p>Enough for a better apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Enough to stop calculating groceries before reaching the register.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the amount.<\/p>\n<p>My first instinct was refusal.<\/p>\n<p>Then Grandma&#39;s final letter came back to me.<\/p>\n<p>Be
