Cole, Davis and the officer inside.”

“Yes.”

Timer twenty-two.

Maya stared at the override.

This was Crown’s logic in its purest form.

Save the system by sacrificing the people inside it.

The exact choice Gabriel had rejected.

“No.”

Cross looked at her.

“Maya—”

“No.”

Timer fifteen.

Davis hammered the jammed safety.

Nothing.

Cole shouted, “Again!”

Ten.

Davis pulled.

Metal screamed.

Eight.

The handle moved half an inch.

Six.

Again.

Four.

Maya held her breath.

Three.

C safety turned green.

THERMITE SEQUENCE INTERRUPTED.

The countdown stopped at two seconds.

Nobody moved.

Then Davis laughed.

Not politely.

Not professionally.

A full exhausted laugh echoed through Crown Zero.

Cole sat on the floor.

The Swiss officer leaned against a rack.

Maya closed her eyes.

Mercer exhaled beside her.

Ward said nothing.

Kessler was gone from the camera.

Again.

Of course.

Maya opened her eyes.

“Where is he?”

Cole stood.

“Back exit.”

“Pursue?”

A long pause.

Then Gabriel’s voice returned in Maya’s memory.

Don’t turn this into revenge.

Get the people safe.

Get the evidence safe.

Maya looked at the archive transfer.

Ninety-one percent.

“Kessler can wait.”

Cole sounded almost amused.

“That’s growth.”

“Don’t push it.”

The copy reached all copies.

No single trustee could erase them.

No single fire could destroy them.

Maya stared at the confirmation screen.

For eighteen months, Gabriel’s truth had existed in fragments.

A model airplane.

A shadow box.

A memory sequence.

A hidden report.

A buried transmission.

People each holding one piece.

Now the pieces were together.

And impossible to quietly disappear.

Ward spoke through the channel.

“Maya.”

“Yes.”

“You have everything.”

“No.”

“What’s missing?”

Maya looked toward not?”

“Helix is suspended, not dismantled.”

Maya looked at the system map.

He was right.

Fifty-two successor nodes Ward might eventually rebuild majority authority.

The system still depended on people behaving correctly.

Gabriel would hate that.

So did Maya.

She closed the resignation screen.

“Then we dismantle Helix first.”

Ward said quietly, “You can’t.”

Maya looked at her trustee think chaos is morally superior to control?”

Maya answered carefully.

“No.”

“I think hidden control without consent is what created the chaos we’re
