video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe final instruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at Ward.<\/p>\n<p>Then at Maya.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout Crown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cross\u2019s voice sounded from the corridor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not open that file!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maya stared toward the door.<\/p>\n<p>Ward\u2019s expression had gone pale.<\/p>\n<p>That told her enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCamila.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlay Gabriel\u2019s final instruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cross shouted again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camila opened it.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel appeared on the basement monitor through the remote archive interface.<\/p>\n<p>His face was bruised.<\/p>\n<p>Maya\u2019s breath caught.<\/p>\n<p>She had never seen him like that.<\/p>\n<p>The timestamp showed the night before his final flight.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel spoke quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re seeing this, Crown already knows I copied the customer ledger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ward closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if Helena Ward tells you Nathan Cross is protecting the program, she\u2019s telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cross stopped shouting.<\/p>\n<p>Maya stared.<\/p>\n<p>Then Gabriel said the sentence that changed the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Cross isn\u2019t Crown\u2019s executive trustee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ward\u2019s head snapped up.<\/p>\n<p>Mercer whispered, \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel looked directly into the camera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trustee is Helena Ward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maya turned slowly.<\/p>\n<p>Ward stood beside the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Silent.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe built Crown\u2019s compartment structure and used Cross as public authority because nobody would look past him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis stared at Ward.<\/p>\n<p>Cole\u2019s gun shifted toward her.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Ward claims she lost access, assume she is lying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maya felt the trap close.<\/p>\n<p>Ward had brought them to Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Ward had pointed at him.<\/p>\n<p>Ward had framed herself as removed from power.<\/p>\n<p>And everyone had believed her because Cross looked exactly like the kind of man who should be at the top.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel\u2019s final line played.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelena doesn\u2019t want Nightglass destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ward reached for something inside her jacket.<\/p>\n<p>Cole moved.<\/p>\n<p>Too late.<\/p>\n<p>Ward pressed a small remote.<\/p>\n<p>The publication terminal went black.<\/p>\n<p>Then every light in the basement
