agreeing.”

“I was about to say that to you.”

Police entered the railway tunnel ninety minutes later.

Davis and Venn remained behind the first tactical element.

Maya stayed at the command center with Leo.

She listened over secure radio.

The tunnel led to an underground maintenance depot.

Inside, police found abandoned equipment.

Power cables.

Satellite uplink hardware.

A portable server rack.

Black Wake.

Venn confirmed it.

The countdown showed three hours, one minute.

“Can you abort?” Maya asked over radio.

Venn examined the controller.

“Maybe.”

“Your favorite word.”

“I’m starting to understand why Davis finds you difficult.”

Davis’s voice came through.

“Finally, an expert opinion.”

For one brief second, Maya smiled.

Then Venn stopped speaking.

“What?”

No answer.

“Elias?”

Davis returned.

“We have a problem.”

“What?”

“The controller is running.”

“We know.”

“No. I mean it’s running somewhere else too.”

Maya’s smile vanished.

Venn explained.

“This node is mirrored.”

“Where?”

“I can’t tell.”

“Can you abort this one?”

“Yes.”

“Then do it.”

“If I abort only one, the mirror assumes this node failed and takes primary control.”

Maya closed her eyes.

Kessler had built redundancy.

Of course.

“How do we locate the mirror?”

Venn searched logs.

A synchronization address appeared.

Encrypted.

Mercer’s analysts began tracing it.

The route bounced through servers across four countries.

Then one physical endpoint emerged.

Madrid-Barajas Airport.

Maya stared at the result.

“He went back.”

Mercer looked equally stunned.

“To the airport?”

“He never needed to escape Spain.”

The mirror controller sat somewhere inside the same airport where Flight 412 had landed.

The place now filled with investigators, police, journalists and grounded aircraft.

Perfect camouflage.

Maya looked through the window at Leo.

Then at the airport map.

Kessler had brought everything back to where it began.

And this time, she knew exactly what he expected her to do.
