No strings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I called him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#39;t have to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJenna, I&#39;m not buying access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That stopped me.<\/p>\n<p>He continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you tell me tomorrow that I can&#39;t visit for six months, the account stays hers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the papers.<\/p>\n<p>That was exactly the sentence I needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A week later Kyle texted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if Dad is funding Maisie&#39;s college, she&#39;ll basically be set later, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the message.<\/p>\n<p>I knew what he was asking without him asking.<\/p>\n<p>Would there eventually be money?<\/p>\n<p>Would my daughter become another resource in the family system?<\/p>\n<p>I wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means she&#39;s being protected from people who think of her that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kyle didn&#39;t respond for an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFair.
