Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe his assistant at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cName?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Frank answered.<\/p>\n<p>Colleen Mercer.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered Colleen.<\/p>\n<p>She worked for Thomas for three years, then left when her husband was transferred out of state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is she now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Frank did not know.<\/p>\n<p>Laura wrote the name down.<\/p>\n<p>I felt a flicker of exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>Another person.<\/p>\n<p>Another branch.<\/p>\n<p>Another secret.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrank,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn&#39;t you come to the funeral?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice broke slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I knew you would stand there thinking Thomas had always protected the company from everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I knew there was at least one time the company needed protecting from Thomas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sentence hurt because it was true.<\/p>\n<p>After the call, nobody spoke for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Then Rebecca said, \u201cWe need Colleen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#39;ll locate her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the two copies of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil then, we assume nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcept one thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas knew my signature was false and chose not to tell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>That fact alone was enough.<\/p>\n<p>Not enough to condemn everything he had been.<\/p>\n<p>Enough to stop pretending love erased what he had done.<\/p>\n<p>That evening, after everyone left, I went upstairs.<\/p>\n<p>I opened my jewelry box.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas&#39;s original wedding ring lay beside mine.<\/p>\n<p>Still choosing.<\/p>\n<p>I placed both rings on my palm.<\/p>\n<p>For thirty-four years, choosing Thomas had never meant believing he was flawless.<\/p>\n<p>But I had believed one thing with absolute certainty.<\/p>\n<p>That he would never use me without my consent.<\/p>\n<p>Now even that certainty had changed.<\/p>\n<p>I closed my hand around the rings.<\/p>\n<p>Then my phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>Laura.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI found Colleen Mercer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlready?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe lives in Ohio now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you speak to her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura&#39;s voice changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe remembers the agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I sat down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does she remember?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe says Thomas brought it to her office and asked her to add a witness signature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room seemed to tilt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I closed my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid she?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relief came too early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to Colleen, Thomas said he would handle it himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=28586\">Click here to continue reading: PART 16: Colleen\u2019s Account Finally Explained the False Signature, but Her Memory of Thomas\u2019s Next Request Revealed a Secret Nobody Had Yet Mentioned<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The original agreement was not in Rebecca&#39;s files.
