Both are true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas looked almost confused by the admission.<\/p>\n<p>People like him understood denial better than accountability.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should try saying one true thing before this ends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard asked me to scare Evelyn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret went still.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline did too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t tell me to expose Olivia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExplain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted Evelyn to sell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he sent you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he ask you to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPressure her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you found the letters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd blackmailed her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caroline breathed slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Richard know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot until after she signed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That matched Richard\u2019s claim on the quarry tape.<\/p>\n<p>But Thomas continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kept the land anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe made more money than anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd everyone decided I was the monster because I was the only one who didn\u2019t pretend regret changed anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caroline stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause you ordered Ray to kill me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas raised the gun slightly.<\/p>\n<p>That was enough.<\/p>\n<p>Peter dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline moved.<\/p>\n<p>A suppressed shot cracked from outside.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas\u2019s gun flew from his hand.<\/p>\n<p>He screamed and fell against the loading bay.<\/p>\n<p>Officers flooded the building.<\/p>\n<p>Peter crawled away.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline dropped beside him.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas was restrained.<\/p>\n<p>Alive.<\/p>\n<p>Shot through the forearm.<\/p>\n<p>The standoff ended in less than five seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Olivia exhaled so hard she nearly collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>I thought the danger had passed.<\/p>\n<p>Then Daniel\u2019s voice came over the radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrtiz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrtiz, we have movement behind the west structure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officers turned.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle engine roared.<\/p>\n<p>An old pickup burst from behind the packing house.<\/p>\n<p>It struck a patrol car and tore across the orchard.<\/p>\n<p>Mara leaned toward the monitor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is driving?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A camera caught the face for half a second.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Voss.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow out of custody.<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>But he was not alone.<\/p>\n<p>A second figure sat beside him.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Crane.<\/p>\n<p>Not restrained.<\/p>\n<p>Not struggling.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel had left the Vale property before we realized he was gone.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s voice came through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caroline stared after the disappearing truck.<\/p>\n<p>Then Peter, still on the ground, began laughing painfully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>Peter looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou still don\u2019t understand Samuel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t help bury your cache because Richard ordered him to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caroline\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peter answered:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Samuel Crane was the one who gave Thomas the original ledger.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=28261\">Click here to continue reading: PART 24: Samuel\u2019s Betrayal Reframed the Entire Ledger Hunt, and Caroline Discovered the Originals Had Been Moved Before She Returned<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe place where this actually started\u201d was not the Vale property.
