Figure it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I ended the call.<\/p>\n<p>David stared at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was reckless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liam almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>I looked toward the highway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David answered immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe records vault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find Richard first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Hale has Chloe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd wants the trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Richard wants the ledger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Hale is not working for Richard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich means Richard may be useful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot believe you just said that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeither can I.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liam looked between us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrandpa might know how to reach Hale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr Hale might be trying to take everything before Grandpa dies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExactly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David rubbed his forehead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vault still matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can wait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause if Hale knows the trust exists, he will go for the certificates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen let him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou said ownership means nothing without both the certificates and transfer book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes Hale know where the transfer book is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen the certificates alone aren\u2019t enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I held his gaze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stop running toward every piece of paper someone tells us matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liam nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David looked at both of us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what do you suggest?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find Richard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if he\u2019s dead?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The thought hit harder than expected.<\/p>\n<p>I looked back toward the road we had come from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before anyone could move, headlights appeared at the far end of the service road.<\/p>\n<p>One vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Slow.<\/p>\n<p>David reached for the gun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBehind the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We moved.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle approached.<\/p>\n<p>Stopped.<\/p>\n<p>A door opened.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>Footsteps.<\/p>\n<p>David raised the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>A voice called from the darkness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut that thing away before you shoot someone useful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa.<\/p>\n<p>She stepped into view.<\/p>\n<p>Beside her was Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Alive.<\/p>\n<p>Blood stained one sleeve, but he was walking.<\/p>\n<p>Liam exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked at us.<\/p>\n<p>Then at the phone in my hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHale contacted you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has Chloe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard nodded once.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know where he\u2019s taking her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked toward me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause twenty-three years ago, Martin Hale helped your mother create the Bennett trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I felt my stomach tighten.<\/p>\n<p>Richard continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd there was one thing Carol never discovered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHale did not help her take control of Mitchell Coastal for her benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked toward the dark highway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe helped her take it for his.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=28157\">Click here to continue reading: PART 13: Richard Said Hale Had Been Waiting Twenty-Three Years for My Signature, but Chloe Had Left Us a Clue He Never Noticed<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several seconds, I could hear only Melissa breathing through the phone.
