Richard eventually found out it existed and forced David to bring it to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd David did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor three days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened after three days?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe stole it back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liam leaned forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is it now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa lowered her voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one knows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrandpa?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause if Richard had the ledger, he wouldn\u2019t still be looking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought of the house transfer.<\/p>\n<p>The fake accounts.<\/p>\n<p>The money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does the ledger prove?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s vague.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNames. Dates. Account numbers. Property transfers. Loans. Fake companies. People Richard paid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaw enforcement?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudges?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoliticians?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I let out a breath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs there anyone not in this ledger?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That surprised me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother kept me out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs much as she could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Liam?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompletely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Until now.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at my son.<\/p>\n<p>He had inherited a war he had never been meant to know existed.<\/p>\n<p>My phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>A photograph loaded.<\/p>\n<p>The diner.<\/p>\n<p>Taken through the front window.<\/p>\n<p>All three of us visible.<\/p>\n<p>Under it were four words.<\/p>\n<p>YOU CHOSE THE WRONG WOMAN.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho sent that?\u201d Liam asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo more running without understanding why.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I turned the phone so she could see the message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is the wrong woman?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Then at me.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, she sat back down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they mean me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Richard believes I betrayed him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at Liam.<\/p>\n<p>Then she looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was the person who helped your mother steal the six hundred thousand.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=28151\">Click here to continue reading: PART 7: Melissa\u2019s Confession Led to a Second Hidden Account, and the Name Attached to It Changed What I Believed About David<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several seconds, I did not touch the folder.
