necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel survived by needing no one.<\/p>\n<p>Both responses came from the same father\u2019s divided life.<\/p>\n<p>Amanda looked at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to need us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He tensed slightly.<\/p>\n<p>She continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I hope someday you might want us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared at her.<\/p>\n<p>Then nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amanda smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was enough.<\/p>\n<p>After dinner, Isaac walked me to my car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour place?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor tea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I understood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At my house, we sat on the sofa.<\/p>\n<p>We kissed.<\/p>\n<p>Longer this time.<\/p>\n<p>Still careful.<\/p>\n<p>Still chosen.<\/p>\n<p>At one point Isaac pulled back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to make it erased the past.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing about it guaranteed the future.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning, sunlight entered through the east-facing kitchen windows.<\/p>\n<p>Isaac made coffee.<\/p>\n<p>I sat at my table wearing his shirt.<\/p>\n<p>He looked absurdly pleased with himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m making coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re celebrating internally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Then he became serious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you okay?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny regret?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relief moved through him.<\/p>\n<p>I pointed at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not turn that into a promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He handed me coffee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m
