But natural conception would have been unlikely, and IVF success may have been limited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Oakfield know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid I know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe counseling form in your file states both partners were informed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was never told that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#39;ll compare signatures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother forged form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many times did people sign my name?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#39;re documenting every instance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed bitterly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy marriage apparently involved a fictional version of me who agreed to everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dana didn&#39;t respond to that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about Adrian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe confirmed he worked for a company servicing Oakfield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas he there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My breath stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwice during your treatment cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEquipment calibration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould he access samples?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormally, no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormally has become meaningless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he provide a sperm sample?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould there be a donor record?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf formal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if Richard arranged it privately?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I sat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHas anyone contacted Adrian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#39;re preparing to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon&#39;t accuse him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe may not know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That evening, Carter sent me photographs from the Continuity Project files.<\/p>\n<p>Most were ordinary invoices.<\/p>\n<p>Trust drafts.<\/p>\n<p>Legal memos.<\/p>\n<p>Then one image loaded slowly.<\/p>\n<p>An Oakfield laboratory sheet.<\/p>\n<p>At the top was my patient number.<\/p>\n<p>Below it were four embryo identifiers.<\/p>\n<p>The same four I remembered.<\/p>\n<p>Beside the paternal specimen field was not Carter&#39;s patient number.<\/p>\n<p>It was a handwritten code.<\/p>\n<p>AM-042.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian Mercer.<\/p>\n<p>I stared until my eyes hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Then I saw another notation below it.<\/p>\n<p>AUTHORIZED SUBSTITUTE \u2014 R.H.S.<\/p>\n<p>Richard had not merely discovered the truth after Emma was born.<\/p>\n<p>He had ordered it before any of my children existed.<\/p>\n<p>I forwarded the image to Dana.<\/p>\n<p>A minute later, she called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere did Carter get this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis father&#39;s archive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not alter the image.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need the physical original.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarter can preserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#39;ll contact him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at the date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She went quiet.<\/p>\n<p>The authorization had been signed four days before my egg retrieval.<\/p>\n<p>Before fertilization.<\/p>\n<p>Before anyone could claim a spontaneous laboratory mistake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are you thinking?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Richard decided who would father my children without telling me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dana did not answer.<\/p>\n<p>Because there was nothing useful to say.<\/p>\n<p>Then I noticed one more line near the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>A signature block.<\/p>\n<p>Not mine.<\/p>\n<p>Not Carter&#39;s.<\/p>\n<p>Not Richard&#39;s.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Vale.<\/p>\n<p>And beside his name, a second handwritten phrase:<\/p>\n<p>Donor informed \u2014 limited consent.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at it.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian may have known he was donating.<\/p>\n<p>But limited consent could mean many things.<\/p>\n<p>For research.<\/p>\n<p>For fertility treatment.<\/p>\n<p>For anonymous use.<\/p>\n<p>Not necessarily for his half brother&#39;s wife.<\/p>\n<p>Not necessarily for children Richard intended to control.<\/p>\n<p>And if Adrian had consented to something different, Richard may have lied to him too.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=27729\">Click here to continue reading: PART 11: Adrian Finally Answered Dana\u2019s Call, and What Richard Had Told Him About the Donation Turned Another Suspect Into a Witness<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dana found him before sunset.
